Year 2 Learning Zone and Curriculum Overview

This half term we have enjoyed designing and making our pizzas!

We taste tested a range of toppings and gathered data on the most popular pizzas before designing our own.

In Maths we have  been exploring 2D and 3D shapes and enjoyed working with our group to match the properties to the shape name. We have continued to improve our skills in addition and subtraction and can now solve problems using multiplication facts !

In English, we have been learning all about non fiction texts: Instructions.  We practised listening to and following instructions and we used this skill to make a pirate hat!

Have a look at some of our examples...

In Maths we have been recalling our number skills and applying our knowledge when measuring different items.  We have been measuring using centimetres and we write this as cm.

We have also been learning a lot in our other subjects.  We have been identifying different foods that our bodies need to keep us healthy.  We now know that there are five different food groups and that we need to eat a range of different foods to keep us healthy.  In Art we have been investigating how to use texture to make different fruit models and of course we showcased all of this at our Parent Celebration Event at the end of last term.  It was so well attended and the learners loved sharing their learning with their parents and carers.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for attending – we all appreciate your support.

As part of our RE curriculum, we were lucky enough to have a visit from a lady who told us all about the religion Hinduism. 

She taught us some key facts and we even learnt some traditional hindu dances. It was fantastic!

Our Pizza...

This week we have been using our Art skills to create our own pinch pot (a pot that you make by pinching the clay). 

We are also going to make some fruit out of clay to put inside our pots too!  Have a look at our progress so far...

This week in Maths we have been applying our place value knowledge to other areas of the maths curriculum such as MEASURING!  

We have started by looking at different objects and measuring them using non standard units of measurements like cubes.

We have then moved our learning on to identify how rulers can be used to measure the length of different objects such as pens, scissors and other classroom objects!
